Everest Momo Fest 2026, organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association Hong Kong and the Consulate General of Nepal, HKSAR, celebrated the 73rd International Everest Day under the theme “Sagarmatha: The Pride and Identity of Nepal.” The event welcomed over 150 attendees, honoring Nepal’s rich heritage and the legacy of Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha).

The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Nepal, HKSAR, successfully hosted the “Everest Momo Fest 2026” to commemorate the 73rd International Everest Day, marking the historic first ascent of Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha) in 1953. The event was organized under the powerful motto “Sagarmatha: The Pride and Identity of Nepal” and witnessed an overwhelming participation of more than 150 attendees.
Celebration of Everest Day and Nepali Identity
The event served as a vibrant celebration of Nepal’s national pride, culture, and unity. Distinguished guests included Acting Consul-General of Nepal Mr. Satish Gurung, Yau Tsim Mong District Councillors Ms. Aruna Gurung and Mr. YEUNG Tsz Hei (Benny) MH, NRNA ICC Women Vice President Ms. Tika Gurung, along with ICC executives, NRNA Hong Kong leadership, past and present executive members, and presidents/representatives of various Nepali community organizations in Hong Kong.
Momo Competition and Culinary Excellence
A major highlight of the festival was the live momo-making and tasting competition, featuring leading Nepalese restaurants in Hong Kong, including Everest Restaurant & Bar, Spicy Salt, The Jungle, Funky Monkey, MT.8848 Himalayan Restaurant & Bar, The Nest Restaurant & Bar, and Chulo Nepalese Home Cooking.
Through public tasting and voting by attendees, Everest Restaurant & Bar was awarded the title of “Best Momo in Hong Kong 2026”, adding flavor and excitement to the celebration.
Launch of Special Digital Publication
The event also marked the official launch of the Everest Special Edition digital magazine titled “Momo, Mountains and Community”, showcasing Nepali culture, identity, and community stories.
Panel Discussion: “Mindset of a Champion”
A special panel discussion titled “Mindset of a Champion” was moderated by NRNA Hong Kong Women Coordinator Ms. Satya Gahatraj. The session featured inspiring Everest summiteers Ms. Anjala Rai and Mr. Nima Dorchi Sherpa, who shared their real-life experiences of resilience, determination, and achievement.
Distinguished Hosting and Community Leadership
The event was hosted by Ms. Erica Pun and brought together strong leadership from NRNA Hong Kong, including President Ms. Anu Rai, Vice President Ms. Kabita Gurung, Secretary Mr. Bishwonath Ghising, Treasurer Mr. Arjun Gauchan, and other executive members.
The program was further strengthened by the active involvement of advisors, ICC representatives, and community leaders, reflecting strong unity within the Nepali diaspora.
